"James is a hugely creative man, with talent and ideas
to burn. But one thing makes him stand out in a crowded
field - something very simple but, in my experience,
extremely rare in this business.

He has no ego.

This means he is the easiest creative I’ve ever worked
with. His ability to work with another designer was both
surprising and welcome. He carries his significant
abilities very lightly, and working with him became a
true collegiate effort – to the extent that it’s difficult after
the event to know which were my ideas and which
were his.

What I am clear on is his drive to concentrate solely on
the key issue – getting the right result for the client.

I admit I am quite the strong-headed designer. Like
most designers. I am convinced I know best. About
pretty much everything.

But it is also a fact that I enjoyed working with James.
I enjoyed the team effort, I enjoyed his input, I enjoyed
his sensitivity to my tantrums and demands, and his
ability to lead me, very gently, to see other perspectives.

And for one designer to say that about another is a rare
thing indeed, and something that is utterly down to him.

As James’ natural modesty and manners prevent him
from singing his own praises, I felt I should offer a
testimonial from someone who is less inhibited about
doing so."
